"sm70- why not Duesenberg?" (sm70-whynotduesenberg)

One of the cars I've been looking at in the search for my first car is the Volvo S80 T6. I know, I know. Automatic transmission, front wheel drive, no wagon, not diesel, and no styling to speak of. But, in reality and practicality, this seems like the perfect car for me. I like it because it's fast, comfy, and has lots of toys. Plus, it is a total sleeper. My parents like it because it is safer than staying home, it is reasonable on gas, probably reasonable on insurance, and it won't make every kid in a V6 Mustang at my school want to race (fortunately for them, because they'd loose). And the price for !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , with just 70,000 miles and the rare-ish tan interior, seems reasonable, at just $5500. However, whenever I see a NPoCP listing on here, it is, for example, an old Miata with 50k miles. The Craigslist seller will be asking $4000, and I will think, "yeah, that's reasonable." Then dozens of you will come along and say that you would be a moron to pay more than $1200 for the car, and I'm left a) wondering what don't I know about car values, and b) wishing some of you would come down and negotiate on my behalf. So, what's the verdict on this Volvo. Is its price ok? Or should I offer him $2500 for it and walk if he asks for $5k?

Also, on a side note, my mom doesn't like Volvos, because her friend with a high-mileage XC70 complains about repair costs, and now my mom thinks owning a Volvo is as expensive as owning a pet killer whale. Is she right?
Someone suggested For Sweden has one of these, and might be able to help. Are you out there, Mr. Sweden?

better go through that tranny pretty well. Especially on the T6's those autoboxes are junk. $2500 gives you room in case the tranny blows up.

I never associated the S80 with fast + sleeper. The S60R is probably way faster and I wouldn't even call that "fast"

my mother in law had a thing for Volvos. She had some nightmare repairs - CD player stopped working ($2200), stability control took a crap ($4,000). I'd stay away, but that's coming from a veteran of overpriced euro maintenance cars

For a 16 yet-old, compared to what I'm looking at, 0-60 in 6.2 seconds is fast.
